Introduction

311 is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. The band was formed in 1990 by vocalist/guitarist Nick Hexum and his older brother Chad Sexton on drums. They are known for their fusion of various music styles like hip-hop, reggae, funk, and alternative music. The band consists of Nick Hexum (vocals, guitar), SA Martinez (vocals), Tim Mahoney (guitar), Chad Sexton (drums), and P-Nut (bass).

Career

311 released their self-titled debut album in 1993. It included hits like “Do You Right” and “Down.” The album was certified gold in the United States and Canada. In 1995 they released their second album titled “Grassroots” which featured the hit single “Amber”. The single reached number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1995. The album was certified double platinum.

Collaborations

311 has collaborated with many other artists including Snoop Dogg, Sublime, and The Offspring. In 2003 they collaborated with Snoop Dogg on the song “Beautiful Disaster” which appeared on the soundtrack to the film “The Italian Job”. In 2006 they collaborated with Sublime on the song “What I Got” which appeared on their tribute album “Look at All the Love We Found: A Tribute to Sublime”. The Offspring collaborated with 311 on the song “Can't Get My Head Around You” which appeared on their 2004 album “Splinter”.

Legacy

311 has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and has sold over 8 million albums worldwide. They are considered one of the most successful rock bands of all time and have a large devoted fan base that follows them everywhere they go. Their influence can be heard in the music of many modern rock bands today.
