A Flock Of Seagulls: 80s New Wave Icons
A Flock Of Seagulls, or simply AFOS, is a popular English new wave band that made their mark in the late 70s and early 80s. Formed in Liverpool in 1979, the band consists of brothers Mike Score (keyboards/vocals) and Ali Score (drums), Frank Maudsley (bass), and Paul Reynolds (guitar).
Early Success
AFOS's debut single, “Telecommunication” was released in 1980. The single was a minor success in the UK but was quickly overshadowed by their follow-up single, “I Ran (So Far Away).” The single became a top 10 hit in both the US and UK and brought the band international attention.
Breakthrough Album
The band's debut album, A Flock Of Seagulls was released in 1982. The album featured their hit singles “Space Age Love Song” and “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).” The album went on to be certified gold in the US and spawned four Top 40 singles.
Later Work
AFOS followed up their debut album with 1984's The Story of a Young Heart. The album was less successful than its predecessor but still managed to reach gold status. The band's third album was released in 1985 and featured the singles “Never Again” and “Who's That Girl?”
Reunion & Legacy
AFOS reunited in 2004 for a series of live shows. Since then, they have released two compilation albums and have continued to tour around the world. While they may not have enjoyed the same level of success as they did during their early years, they remain an iconic part of 80s new wave music.}
