Early Life
Ab-Soul was born Herbert Anthony Stevens IV on February 23, 1987 in Los Angeles County, California. He was raised in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson. Ab-Soul's father played the drums in church while his mother sang in the choir. His father was also a part of a local funk band. After graduating high school, he enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles and majored in Business Administration.
Career
In 2007, Ab-Soul signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Ab-Soul released his first mixtape titled Longterm in 2009. The mixtape included features from members of TDE including Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. Later that year he released another mixtape titled Longterm 2: Lifestyles of the Broke and Almost Famous. In 2010 he released his third mixtape titled Longterm Mentality. In 2011 he released his fourth mixtape titled Control System. In 2012 he released his fifth mixtape titled This Is Not the End. He released his debut studio album named These Days... in 2014. The album included features from Jhene Aiko, Rick Ross and Lupe Fiasco among others. In 2016 he released his second studio album titled Do What Thou Wilt. The album featured guest appearances from ScHoolboy Q, Mac Miller and SZA among others.
