Early Life
Born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III in 1979 in California, Aloe Blacc was exposed to music from an early age. The son of Panamanian immigrants, Blacc was raised on a variety of musical styles from gospel to cumbia, salsa and soul.
Career
Aloe Blacc released his first album Shine Through in 2006 and followed it up with Good Things in 2010. That same year he released the single “I Need a Dollar” which was used as the theme song for HBO's “How to Make It in America”. In 2013 he released his third album Lift Your Spirit which included the single “The Man” which became a worldwide hit and earned him a Grammy nomination.
