Amy Shark, born Amy Louise Billings, was born and raised in the Gold Coast of Australia in 1986. She attended Southport State High School, where she performed in theatre, studied film, and played guitar in an all-female punk-band.
She subsequently performed under various names, including Amy Cushway (from 2008 to 2012), Amy Billings, and as Little Sleeper. Her first solo gig was at Burleigh Bears Rugby League Club, where she performed cover versions.
She released her debut EP I Thought of You Out Loud in mid-2008 and performed at a series of solo concerts from July of the same year. Cushway's second EP, Love's Not Anorexi, appeared in mid-2009, supported by a national tour from July.
In 2017, Amy released her first EP, Night Thinker, which featured her hit single “Weekends”. The album was a huge success, reaching number one on the iTunes charts in Australia. Her success continued with her debut album Love Monster, which was released in 2018 and debuted at number one on the ARIA charts. Her songs have since been featured on several movie soundtracks and television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy.
Amy has collaborated with other artists such as Keith Urban, Mark Hoppus of Blink 182, Travis Barker, and many more.
On 15 November 2017, she appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden singing "Adore", and performed it again on 13 March 2018 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In March 2018, Shark provided, "Sink In", for the film soundtrack of Love, Simon. The related album, by various artists, debuted at No. 37 on the Billboard 200.
Amy Shark has been nominated for several awards including ARIA Awards, APRA Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards. She has also won several awards including Best Pop Release at the ARIA Music Awards for “Night Thinker” in 2017 and for “Love Monster” in 2018. She also won “Best Single” award for her song “Baby Steps” at Rolling Stone Australia Awards in 2022.
Amy Shark has been touring across Australia and New Zealand with her latest album “Cry Forever” (2021). The album features singles such as “Everybody Rise” and “C'mon” which have already become fan favourites.
For “Cry Forever”, Amy Shark worked with Ed Sheeran, Diplo, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, and the Chainsmokers.
