Anup Jalota was born on July 30, 1945 in Nainital, Uttar Pradesh to a family with a musical background. His father Purshotam Das Jalota was a folk singer and his mother's name was Gyan Devi. He studied at Allahabad University where he received Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in 1967 and Master of Arts (M.A) degree in 1969.
Career
Anup Jalota started his career as a classical singer at a young age. He released his first album 'Bhajan Sandhya' in 1975 which proved to be a major hit. The album featured some of the most famous bhajans like 'Hare Krishna Hare Ram' and 'Tumhi Ho Mata Pita Tumhi Ho'. His next album 'Giridhari' released in 1977 was also highly successful.
