Anupam Roy is an Indian singer-songwriter and composer from Kolkata, West Bengal. He is best known for his soundtrack work in the 2012 Bengali film ‘Chalo Paltai’, for which he also composed the score. He has also composed for films such as ‘Autograph’ (2010), ‘Aparajita Tumi’ (2012) and ‘Angry Young Man’ (2014).
Early Life & Career Beginnings
Anupam Roy was born on October 17th, 1982 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Growing up, he was surrounded by musical influences from his parents and older siblings. His father was a popular Bengali folk singer who performed at weddings and other celebrations. His mother too was a vocalist, as well as a piano teacher. In addition to these influences, Anupam was also exposed to the works of Rabindranath Tagore, the great Bengali poet-composer. By the time he was 15, Anupam had already started playing the guitar and had begun writing his own songs.
Rise to Fame
In 2004, Anupam released his debut album ‘Cholte Cholte’ which was a huge success in Bengal. The album featured many hit singles such as ‘Cholte Cholte’, ‘Amar Moto Eto Sukhi’, and ‘Kichhu Kichhu Kotha’. The album was so successful that it was re-released in 2008 with additional tracks. Anupam soon became one of the most popular Bengali singers of the time. He went on to compose music for several films such as ‘Autograph’ (2010), ‘Aparajita Tumi’ (2012), and ‘Angry Young Man’ (2014). He also composed music for television shows such as ‘Ek Akasher Niche’ and ‘Porikromer Golpo’.
