Who is Ai?

Ai (born Ai Otsuka on September 9th 1983 in Osaka, Japan) is a singer-songwriter who debuted in 2003 with the single ""Sakuranbo"". Since then she has become one of Japan's top pop stars. Her music has often been described as ""cute"" and ""pop positive"", with her signature style being a combination of traditional Japanese musical influences and contemporary dance-pop. She has released seven studio albums, four live albums, and over thirty singles. Her biggest hits include ""Planetarium"", ""Love Jam"", and ""Delightful"".

Early Life and Education

Ai was born in Osaka, Japan to an ordinary middle-class family. She attended a local high school where she was active in the choir club. After graduating high school, she enrolled at Aoyama Gakuin University where she studied design, but left during her second year of university to pursue a career in music.

The Rise to Fame

In 2003, Ai made her debut with the single ""Sakuranbo"" which became an instant hit in Japan and helped launch her career. The single was followed by her debut album ""Love Punch"", which spawned two more hit singles: ""Planetarium"" and ""Love Jam"". After that, she released five more studio albums: ""Fantastic"" (2005), ""Heart"" (2006), ""Love Letter"" (2007), ""Fairyland"" (2009), and ""Love Is Born 7"" (2012).

Throughout her career, Ai has collaborated with many Japanese musicians such as Kumi Koda, Hikaru Utada, Yuki, and more. She also occasionally works with Western artists like Jason Derulo on her song ""Delightful"".
