Who is Alexander Rybak?

Alexander Igoryevich Rybak (born 13 May 1986) is a Norwegian singer, composer, violinist, and songwriter. He rose to fame in 2009 after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow with his self-composed song ""Fairytale"".

Early Life

Rybak was born in Minsk, Belarusian SSR. He became a student at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo at the age of 10. In 2004, Rybak was awarded the Anders Jahre Culture Prize presented to him by Viktoriya Rybak at the annual culture festival in Madrid.

Career

In 2006, Rybak released his first album Fairytales. The album peaked at number 1 on the Norwegian Albums Chart as well as the Swedish Albums Chart and went gold in both countries. In 2008 he released his second album No Boundaries which received gold certification in Norway and platinum certification in Russia.

Eurovision Song Contest 2009

Rybak won the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with a record 387 points with his self-composed song ""Fairytale"". The song was an instant hit reaching number one in many European countries including Norway and Russia.

Discography and Awards

Rybak has released three albums: Fairytales (2006), No Boundaries (2008) and Europe Skies (2014). He has won several awards including two Spellemannprisen awards for best male artist (2009) and best pop artist (2011). He also won two World Music Awards for Best Selling Scandinavian Artist (2010) and Best Selling Norwegian Artist (2011).

Personal Life

Rybak married his long-time girlfriend Anna Sahlene in 2014. The couple have two children together: a daughter named Sofia and a son named David. Rybak currently resides in Oslo, Norway.
