Alexandra Imelda Cecelia Ewan Burke is a British singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer best known for winning the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008. She became the first female contestant to win the show and since then has gone on to become one of the most successful singers in recent years.
Early Life
Burke was born in Islington, London to a single mother. Her father died when she was young and she was raised by her mother and grandmother. She started singing with her local church choir at the age of three and was soon cast as a soloist in various musicals.
Career
In 2008, Burke auditioned for The X Factor and made it through to the live shows. She went on to win the show in December 2008, becoming the first female to do so. After her win, Burke released her debut album 'Overcome', which reached number one in the UK Album Chart. She followed this up with two more albums - 'Heartbreak on Hold' (2012) and 'The Truth Is' (2014). In 2020, she returned with her fourth studio album 'The Tree'.
