Early Life

Moyet was born Geneviève Alison Jane Moyet on June 18th, 1961 in Billericay, Essex, England. She grew up listening to soul music, which she credits with her vocal style today. From an early age, she wanted to be a singer and was inspired by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Al Green. Moyet started out singing in pubs and clubs before being signed to CBS Records.

Career

In 1982, Moyet and Vince Clarke formed the synthpop duo Yazoo. The duo released two albums before splitting up in 1983. In 1984, Moyet released her debut solo album Alf. The album spawned several hit singles including ""Love Resurrection"", ""All Cried Out"" and ""Invisible"". The album peaked at number five in the UK and was certified platinum. In 1985, Moyet released her second solo album Raindancing. The album featured the hit single ""Is This Love?"", which reached number two in the UK chart.

Later Career

In 1991, Moyet released her third studio album Hoodoo. The album spawned the hit single ""It Won't Be Long"", which reached number eight in the UK chart. In 2002, Moyet released her fifth studio album Hometime. The album peaked at number eight in the UK chart and was certified gold. In 2007, Moyet released her sixth studio album The Turn. The album peaked at number six in the UK chart and was certified gold.

Collaborations

Moyet has collaborated with many artists throughout her career including M People, Billy Ocean and Erasure's Vince Clarke. In 2004, she collaborated with dance act Komakino on their single ""Falling"".

Legacy

Moyet has enjoyed a successful career spanning over three decades as both a solo artist and part of Yazoo. She has won numerous awards including Best Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards in 1986 and Best Female Singer at the Q Awards in 2003 and 2008.
