Angie Stone is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. Stone rose to fame in the late 1990s as part of the R&B trio Vertical Hold. After the group disbanded, she released her first solo album, Black Diamond, in 1999. The album spawned the hit single ""No More Rain (In This Cloud)"", which reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. She has since earned multiple Grammy Award nominations for her work in R&B and soul music.

Early Life and Career

Angela Laverne Brown was born on December 18, 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina. She began her music career as a member of the singing group The Sequence, an all-female rap trio from Atlanta. The group had a number of charting singles in the early 1980s, including ""Funk You Up"" (which reached number 12 on the R&B chart). In 1988, Stone formed Vertical Hold with two of her former Sequence bandmates. The group released their debut album, Something's On Your Mind, in 1992. The album spawned several hits, including ""Seems You're Much Too Busy"", which reached number one on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. After the group disbanded in 1996, Stone embarked on a solo career.

Breakthrough Success

Stone released her debut solo album, Black Diamond, in 1999. The album spawned the hit single ""No More Rain (In This Cloud)"", which reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.
