Who is Anita Baker?

Anita Baker (born Anita Denise Baker on January 26, 1958) is an award-winning American singer who rose to fame in the 1980s as one of the most successful R&B and soul singers of all time. She has a beautiful four-octave vocal range and is often dubbed as “the queen of soul.”

Early Life

Anita was born in Toledo, Ohio, to a family of six children. Her father worked as a factory worker while her mother was a homemaker. At the age of 12, she began singing in her church choir and soon after joined a local Detroit band called Chapter 8. Within three years, she had released her debut album.
