Asia Biography

Asia is a British supergroup formed in 1981 by four members of some of the most successful prog rock bands of the 70s: Yes (Steve Howe), King Crimson (John Wetton), Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Carl Palmer) and The Buggles (Geoff Downes). The band released five albums throughout its career and achieved great success in the 80s.

Music

Asia's first album, named after the band itself, was released in 1982. It was an instant success and topped the US charts for nine weeks with singles such as ""Heat of the Moment"" and ""Only Time Will Tell"". The follow-up album Alpha (1983) was also successful and contained the hit single ""Don't Cry"". In 1985, the band released Astra that contained the hit single ""Go"". After this album, they went on hiatus until 1989 when they released their last album Then & Now.

Awards

Asia has won several awards throughout its career. In 1983, they won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for their song ""Heat of the Moment"". They have also been nominated for several other Grammy Awards in 1983, 1984 and 1985. In addition to this, they have won numerous awards from Billboard Magazine and various other publications.

Legacy

Asia is one of the most important bands of the 80s and their influence can still be felt today. They are credited with helping to popularize prog rock and have had a huge impact on many subsequent artists. Their music continues to be enjoyed to this day.
