Who Is Bahamas?

Bahamas is the musical project of Canadian singer/songwriter Afie Jurvanen. Born in 1981, he started playing guitar at age 14 and soon found himself playing in various bands. After relocating to Toronto in 2007, he developed his own solo sound which blends elements of folk, country, soul and psychedelia.

Music Career

In 2008, Bahamas released his self-titled debut album on Pheromone Recordings. The album was well-received and earned him two Juno Award nominations for New Artist of the Year and Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. He released his second album, Orange Blues, in 2010. The album featured collaborations with well-known Canadian artists such as Feist and Kathleen Edwards. In 2011, Bahamas released his third album, Barchords, which was recorded with a full band. The album earned him another Juno nomination for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. Bahamas released his fourth studio album, Bahamas Is Afie, in 2014. The album reached No. 3 on the Canadian Albums Chart and earned him a Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year.

Collaborations

Bahamas has collaborated with numerous artists over the years including Feist and Kathleen Edwards. He also collaborated with Eddie Vedder on the track “Walk With Me” which appeared on Vedder’s 2011 solo album Ukulele Songs. In 2017, Bahamas released Earthtones with Jack Johnson as part of Johnson’s All At Once solar powered recording project.
