Banky W., previously known as Olubankole Wellington, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actor. Born on March 27th 1981 in Lagos, Nigeria, Banky W. has earned international recognition for his pioneering contributions to the African music industry.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Banky W. started his musical career as a member of the defunct R&B group called ""Klassique"" while studying engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. In 2002, he founded EME (Empire Mates Entertainment), an independent record label in Lagos, Nigeria that has gone on to become one of the most influential labels in the African music industry.

Rise to Fame

In 2005, Banky W. released his debut studio album ""Back in the Building"", which became an instant hit in Nigeria and other African countries. The single ""Strong Ting"" from the album was well received by fans and critics alike and this propelled Banky W.'s rise to fame. He went on to release several successful albums such as ""The W Experience"", ""R&BW"", and ""Songs About U"".

Awards and Achievements

Banky W. has been recognised for his work both nationally and internationally, earning him several awards such as Best Male West Africa at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2008 and Best Male Artist at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2009. Additionally, he received a nomination for Best International Act at the BET Awards in 2011.

Personal Life

Banky W. is married to Adesua Etomi, a Nigerian actress whom he met while filming their movie The Wedding Party in 2016. Together they have a son named Zaiah who was born in 2019. Banky W. is also an advocate for social change and is involved in various charitable activities including the #EndSARS movement which is aimed at ending police brutality in Nigeria.
