Beck - An Overview

Beck Hansen, known professionally as Beck, is an American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer from Los Angeles. He first gained recognition for his single ""Loser"", which became a worldwide hit in 1994. Since then he has released several other songs that have been well received by critics and fans alike. His music combines elements of hip hop, folk, blues, funk and soul. He has won multiple Grammy Awards throughout his career, including Album of the Year in 2015 for Morning Phase.

Early Life

Beck was born in Los Angeles on July 8, 1970. His mother was a librarian and his father was a former modern dancer. He grew up listening to a variety of music including the blues, R&B and country. Beck's musical influences include The Velvet Underground, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

Career

In 1993 Beck released his debut album Golden Feelings on independent label Bong Load Custom Records. The album received positive reviews from critics and helped to establish him as an up-and-coming artist. The following year he released Mellow Gold which included the single ""Loser"". The song quickly became a hit and propelled him to international fame. In 1996 Beck released Odelay which featured the singles ""Where It's At"" and ""Devils Haircut"". The album was critically acclaimed and won two Grammy Awards. Since then he has released several other albums including Sea Change (2002), Guero (2005), Modern Guilt (2008) and Colors (2017).

Collaborations

In addition to his solo work, Beck has also collaborated with a variety of artists throughout his career. He has collaborated with Run The Jewels on their song ""Nocturnal"", Lil Wayne on ""The Red Ledger"" and Childish Gambino on ""Silk Pillow"". He also collaborated with Eurythmics on the song ""Revolution"".

Awards

Throughout his career Beck has received numerous awards and accolades for his work. He has won three Grammy Awards including Album of the Year in 2015 for Morning Phase. He has also been nominated for two Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards and two MTV Europe Music Awards.
