Big K.R.I.T., born Justin Scott, is an American rapper and producer from Meridian, Mississippi. He began his career in 2005 as a rapper, singer, and producer, releasing his debut mixtape “See Me on Top” in 2007 and his debut album “Live from the Underground” in 2012. He has since released five albums and multiple mixtapes as well as collaborated with dozens of major artists including Bun B, Ludacris, Yo Gotti, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar.

Early Life

Big K.R.I.T was born in Meridian, Mississippi in 1986 and grew up in a musical family – his mother was a piano teacher and his father played the drums for gospel choirs around town. He first began rapping at the age of five and started producing beats at fourteen years old.

Career

In 2005, Big K.R.I.T dropped his first mixtape “See Me on Top” which earned him a loyal following in the south and helped him gain recognition from major labels such as Interscope Records and Def Jam Recordings. In 2008 he released two more mixtapes – “The Last King” and “The Prince” – which gave him further recognition with songs like “Country Sh*t” featuring Ludacris and Bun B.

Breakthrough

In 2010 Big K.R.I.T released his breakthrough mixtape “Krit Wuz Here” which featured appearances from artists like Juelz Santana, Bun B and Future and was highly praised by critics for its production quality and lyrical content.

Commercial Success

In 2012 Big K.R.I.T released his debut studio album “Live From The Underground” which spawned the singles “Money On The Floor” featuring 8Ball & MJG and “I Got This” featuring J Cole and peaked at number 5 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Over the years Big K.R.I.T has collaborated with many major artists including Ludacris, Yo Gotti, J Cole, Bun B, Kendrick Lamar as well as other southern rappers such as Slim Thug, Juvenile and Young Dro.
