Cheryl: The Queen of Pop Music

Cheryl is a British singer, songwriter, and television personality. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England in 1983, she rose to fame in the early 2000s as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud. She released her debut solo album, 3 Words, in 2009 and quickly became one of the UK's best-selling artists. Cheryl's career has spanned over two decades, with a string of hit singles, four solo albums, and two successful stints on The X Factor.

Early Life & Career

Cheryl was born Cheryl Ann Tweedy in Newcastle upon Tyne, England in 1983. She first found success as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud, formed during the reality show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group achieved massive success in the UK with their debut single “Sound of the Underground” and went on to release five studio albums between 2002 and 2008.

Solo Career

In 2009, Cheryl released her debut solo album 3 Words which peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and spawned three top ten singles. Her second album Messy Little Raindrops followed in 2010 and also topped the chart while also reaching number four in Ireland. In 2012 she released A Million Lights which was certified gold by the BPI and spawned four top ten singles including “Call My Name” which peaked at number one in the UK Singles Chart.

Recent Work

In 2014 Cheryl released her fourth album Only Human which peaked at number seven on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum by the BPI for sales over 300,000 copies. She has been featured on several singles by other artists including will.i.am., Tinie Tempah, and Lil' Kim. In recent years Cheryl has become a prominent TV figure appearing as a judge on The X Factor and BBC talent show The Greatest Dancer. She continues to perform live regularly and is working on new music for release in 2021.
