Who is Cold Chisel?

Cold Chisel is an Australian rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia in 1973 by mainstay members Ian Moss on guitar and vocals, Don Walker on piano and keyboards, Steve Prestwich on drums and Jim Barnes on lead vocals. The group currently consists of Ian Moss, Don Walker, Phil Small and Steve Prestwich. Cold Chisel has achieved international success with their powerful sound and memorable lyrics.

The Early Years

Cold Chisel was formed in Adelaide in 1973 by Ian Moss, Don Walker, Steve Prestwich, and bassist Les Kaczmarek. They soon began performing regularly at local pubs and clubs. In 1975 they released their first single “Khe Sanh” which became an instant hit in Australia. This success led to the release of their debut album “Cold Chisel” in 1978. The album featured hits such as “Choirgirl”, “Cheap Wine”, and “My Baby”. The band quickly gained popularity throughout Australia and had a string of successful albums throughout the 1980s.

International Success

In the 1990s Cold Chisel toured Europe and the United States for the first time. They continued to receive critical acclaim for their live performances and released three more studio albums during this period. In 2003 the band released their last studio album “Rising Sun” which was met with critical acclaim. Cold Chisel continues to tour regularly throughout Australia and have become one of the most beloved bands in the country.
