Colter Wall is a Canadian singer-songwriter and folk musician from Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He is known for his distinct baritone voice and an old-timey sound that combines traditional country, folk, blues, and folk rock. Wall released his self-titled debut album on May 12th, 2017. The album was produced by Dave Cobb in Nashville, Tennessee.

Early Life

Wall was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on October 19th, 1993. He grew up listening to classic country music like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. At the age of 15, he began to write and perform music. He attended college at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary and obtained a diploma in oil and gas engineering technology.

Career

In 2017, Wall released his self-titled debut album. The album was praised by critics for its blend of traditional country, blues, and folk rock. Wall's baritone voice has been compared to Johnny Cash's. Since then, he has released two more albums: Songs of the Plains (2018) and Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs (2020). In 2019, Wall was nominated for a Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. He has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including SXSW, Newport Folk Festival, and Austin City Limits.

Wall cites many classic country singers as influences on his music. These include Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Sr., Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, Townes Van Zandt, and Kris Kristofferson.
