Who is Danzig?

Danzig is the stage name of Glenn Danzig, a legendary American heavy metal vocalist. He rose to fame in the 1980s leading the bands Misfits, Samhain and his eponymous band Danzig. To this day, he remains one of the most influential and respected figures in the heavy metal scene.

Early Life

Glenn Danzig was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 23, 1955. He grew up in Lodi, New Jersey where he developed an early interest in music. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland and Ukraine who owned a small printing business. His father was an ardent believer in hard work and discipline and this greatly influenced Danzig’s work ethic.

Career

In 1977, Danzig formed a punk rock band called Misfits. The band released several albums and gained a cult following in the punk rock scene. In 1983, he left Misfits and formed a new band called Samhain. The band released two albums before Danzig decided to form his own self-titled project. In 1987 he released Danzig’s debut album which was a huge success and spawned several hit singles such as “Mother” and “Twist of Cain”. Since then he has released nine more albums with his latest album being released in 2019.

Legacy

Danzig is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the heavy metal scene. He has been cited as an influence by artists such as Metallica, Slipknot, Pantera and many more. His music has been covered by various artists such as Guns N' Roses, Marilyn Manson and Type O Negative. His influence can still be felt today as his music continues to inspire new generations of fans.
