Who is Esteman?

Esteman is the stage name of Esteban Copete, a 32 year-old Colombian singer-songwriter who has become one of the most relevant figures of the Latin American music scene. He is known for his eclectic blend of Latin American soul with hip hop and reggae influences. His music focuses on topics such as love, relationships and everyday life, often with a political message. After releasing two self-produced albums, he rose to fame in 2014 with his single “La Luz”.

Early Life and Career

Esteban Copete was born in 1987 in Medellín, Colombia. He started playing guitar at the age of 6 and by the time he was 15 he had already started writing his own songs. He moved to Bogotá to study Business Administration at the Universidad de Los Andes, but eventually left college to pursue a career in music. In 2010 he released his first album “Vidas Paralelas” and in 2013 he released his second album “El Color de los Sueños”.

Rise to Fame

It was with the release of his single “La Luz” that Esteman found success in 2014. The song quickly became a hit in Colombia and Latin America as a whole and it opened doors for him to collaborate with other prominent figures of the Latin music scene such as Cosculluela, Mau y Ricky and Manuel Turizo. Since then, Esteman has released three more albums; “Luz” (2017), “Tierra Mía” (2019) and “Amanecer” (2020). His latest single “Tú Me Conoces Bien” was released in 2021.

Style and Influence

Esteman’s style is characterized by an eclectic blend of Latin American soul with hip hop and reggae influences. He often incorporates elements of cumbia and salsa into his songs as well. His lyrics often focus on topics such as love, relationships and everyday life, often with a political message.
