Faun: An Introduction

Faun is a German folk music group formed in 1998. They play traditional and original songs in an eclectic blend of styles, including medieval and folk music. The current lineup includes Oliver Pade, Rairda Rehbein, Fiona Rüggeberg and Niel Mitra.

Early Years

Faun was formed by a group of friends who were interested in exploring medieval and folk music. Oliver Pade, a singer and multi-instrumentalist, first got the idea to form Faun while studying music at university. He recruited Rairda Rehbein, a multi-instrumentalist, violinist and vocalist, to join the group.

Commercial Success

In 2002, Faun released their debut album “Licht”. The album was an instant success, reaching the top 10 of the German charts. Since then, the band has released eight more albums, all of which have been met with critical acclaim. Faun has also toured extensively throughout Europe, performing at festivals and clubs.

Style & Influence

Faun’s music is characterised by its combination of traditional instruments such as lutes and flutes with modern influences such as electronica and industrial sounds. The band has cited various influences on their sound including bands such as Dead Can Dance, In Extremo and Corvus Corax.
