Who Is Flay?

Flay (Emily Warren Schwartz) is an American singer-songwriter-producer who has been writing and producing music since she was 14 years old. She is best known for writing the Top 10 hit “Ex’s & Oh’s” by Elle King. In addition to her songwriting credits, Flay has partnered with big names in the music industry such as Troye Sivan, Kygo, Shawn Mendes and more.

Early Life of Flay

Flay was born on August 25th 1990 in Long Island, New York. Growing up in a musically-inclined family, she began playing piano at age five and started writing songs shortly after. At 14, she began studying music production at the Cutting Room in New York City and at 16 she began interning at various studios around town.

In 2013, Flay released her debut single “Giver” which was instantly met with praise from Billboard and MTV. In 2016, she dropped her debut EP “The Grey Area” featuring 4 tracks including a collaboration with Goldroom titled “Only You Can Show Me.” The EP made it to #4 on the iTunes Electronic Albums Chart and #9 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. Her follow up EP “Cruel World” was released in 2017 and featured her single “Mirror Maru.”

Flay has been featured on multiple tracks including those of Kygo, G-Eazy, Shawn Mendes, Louis The Child & Quinn XCII. She has also collaborated with Troye Sivan on his track “The Good Side.” In 2018, she wrote the chorus for 5 Seconds of Summer's single “Valentine.”

Flay is also an ambassador for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). She is a vocal advocate for animal rights and actively campaigns against animal testing and fur farming. She also supports mental health initiatives through her work with organizations such as Bring Change To Mind.
