Who is Frejat?

Frejat is the stage name of Raimundo Nonato de Oliveira Magalhães, a Brazilian musician who has been making music for over 30 years. He was born in Teresina, Piauí, on August 5th 1957. Frejat has become a rock icon in Brazil and is considered one of the most important Brazilian rock musicians in history.

Career

Frejat's career began in 1981 when he joined the band Barão Vermelho. He was the lead singer and wrote many of their most popular songs. In 1990 he left Barão Vermelho to pursue a solo career. Since then he has released nine studio albums and has collaborated with many other artists such as Cássia Eller, Marisa Monte and Nando Reis. He has also written songs for other artists including Chitãozinho e Xororó.

Awards and Recognitions

Frejat has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the Latin Grammy Award for Best Brazilian Song in 2007 for his song “Romance Ideal”. He was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008 for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album for his album Debaixo do Mesmo Céu. In 2012 he was made an official member of the Order of Rio Branco by President Dilma Rousseff.
