Who Are Giant Rooks?
Giant Rooks is an indie rock quintet from Hamm in Germany formed in 2016. The band consists of five members: Fynn Kliemann (guitar/vocals), David Schmidt (bass/vocals), Nils Rößler (guitar), Tobias Jacobs (drums) and Niklas Bräutigam (keys).
Early Interest in Music
The members of Giant Rooks have been playing music together since they were children. Fynn and Nils have been playing guitar together for over 10 years and David has been playing bass for over 8 years. Meanwhile, Tobias and Niklas were self-taught musicians who had a natural inclination for music.
Start of the Band and Career
The band's name “Giant Rooks” was inspired by a poem written by Fynn Kliemann. In 2016 they released their first single “Wild Stare” which was an instant hit. In the following year, they released their debut EP “Rookery” which was met with great success in Germany. The band gained even more recognition when they won the Best Newcomer Award at the German Music Awards in 2018.

Giant Rooks have been nominated for several awards including Best Newcomer at the German Music Awards, Best Rock/Alternative Band at the European Music Awards and Best Indie/Alternative Band at the MTV Europe Music Awards. They have also released several singles such as “Wild Stare”, “New Estate” and “Watershed” which have all topped German music charts.
Current Projects
The band is currently working on their second studio album which is set to be released later this year. They have also recently released a new single called “MTV Unplugged” which was recorded in the famous MTV studios in Berlin. The single is a tribute to their past achievements and serves as an exciting preview for their upcoming album. Giant Rooks continue to impress fans with their unique style of indie rock music.
