Gur Sidhu: Music Artist & Singer Songwriter

Gur Sidhu is an Indian-Canadian international music artist and singer songwriter born in Toronto, Ontario. He is currently 26 years old and has been making music for over a decade. Sidhu’s music blends traditional Indian instrumentation with modern electronic production and hip hop beats. He has released two albums to date and continues to write, record and perform new songs every day.

Early Years

Gur Sidhu grew up in a musical family. His father was a multi-instrumentalist, playing the tabla, harmonium, and dholak. His mother was a vocalist in her local gurdwara. At the age of eight, Gur began to learn the tabla from his father and soon found himself playing along with his father’s recordings of famous classical pieces. It wasn’t until he was sixteen that he began to explore producing and recording his own music using digital audio workstations such as Logic Pro X.

Music Career

In 2014, Gur released his debut album, 'The Journey', which featured collaborations with Canadian artists such as Kardinal Offishall, Classified, and Roy Woods. The album was an immediate success and was praised for its innovative blend of traditional Indian instrumentation with modern hip hop beats. In 2016, he released his second album 'The Vision'. This album featured collaborations with renowned Indian musicians such as Ustad Zakir Hussain and Amaan Ali Khan. The album was nominated for numerous awards including a Juno Award for Best World Music Album in 2017.

Collaborations & Performances

Since the release of 'The Vision', Gur has collaborated with numerous artists from around the world such as UK-based producer Sona Family and Ghanaian singer/songwriter Fuse ODG. He has also performed at festivals such as Glastonbury Festival in England and has had his music featured on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Radio 1's Asian Network.
