Hank Williams Jr., born Hiram King Williams Jr., is a legendary country music artist from Shreveport, Louisiana. He is the son of Hank Williams Sr., another country music great. Williams Jr. has recorded 35 studio albums and charted 80 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including 25 in the Top 10. His career has spanned over five decades and he has achieved numerous awards and accolades along the way.
Early Life and Career
Williams was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1949 and grew up with his mother Audrey. He started playing guitar at the age of 8 and began performing with his father's backing band at the age of 11. At the age of 16, he had his first charting single, “Long Gone Lonesome Blues”, a cover of a song by his father. His first studio album, “Hank Williams Jr.’s Greatest Hits” was released in 1964 and featured covers of some of his father's songs as well as some of his own original compositions.
Success and Collaborations
Throughout his career, Hank Williams Jr. has collaborated with a number of other artists such as Johnny Cash, George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. His success continued into the 1970s with multiple albums reaching gold and platinum status including “The New South” (1970), “A Time for Remembering” (1973), and “The Pressure Is On” (1975). In 1986 he released his album “Montana Cafe” which featured two No. 1 hits - “Born to Boogie” and “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight”. The latter became the theme song for Monday Night Football on ABC.
