Who is Jaykae?

Jaykae is a grime MC from Birmingham in the UK. His real name is Kamari Romeo and he’s 25 years old. He has made a big impact in the UK music scene since his breakthrough single “Toothache” in 2015. He is known for mixing grime with different styles of music like rap, reggae and dancehall to create something unique.

Early Life and Career

Jaykae started writing music in his early teens and released his first mixtape “The Antidote” in 2012. He continued to collaborate with other MCs and producers in the Midlands and released another mixtape in 2013 called “Tales From The Crypt”. He gained more recognition in 2015 with his single “Toothache” and its accompanying video which brought him to the attention of some major labels.

Breakthrough Success

In 2016, Jaykae signed with Island Records and released his debut EP “No Magic” which reached number 24 on the UK Albums Chart. He then went on to collaborate with some big names in the UK scene such as Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal and Skepta. His biggest track came in 2017 with the remix of Dizzee Rascal’s “Space” which peaked at number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. He has since released two more EPs, “The War” (2018) and “Away Days” (2019).

Jaykae’s sound blends grime with elements of rap, reggae, afrobeats and dancehall to create something unique. He has cited artists such as Wiley, Kano and Skepta as influences on his sound.
