Biography

Early Life Jazmine Marie Sullivan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 9th, 1987. At an early age she began singing in church and was soon performing with the Philadelphia Youth Choir. As a teenager she participated in many talent shows and competitions. Her singing career took off in 2008 when she signed to Jive Records and released her debut album, Fearless. Career Sullivan's debut album Fearless was released in 2008 and sold over 1 million copies worldwide. The album featured the hit singles “Need U Bad” and “Bust Your Windows” which both reached the top 40 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. She followed up Fearless with her sophomore album Love Me Back in 2010. The album featured the singles “Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)” and “10 Seconds” which both peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Sullivan went on to collaborate with artists like Missy Elliott, Jerry Wonda, and Ne-Yo. In 2015 she released her third studio album Reality Show which debuted at number eight on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album featured the singles “Let It Burn” and “Mascara” both of which received critical acclaim. Legacy Sullivan has been praised by many for her powerful vocals and honest lyrics. She has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards, winning two for Best R&B Performance for “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles)” in 2011 and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “If I Had No Loot” in 2018. She has also been recognized as one of VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music, a BET Awards nominee, an NAACP Image Award nominee, and an Essence Music Festival performer.
