Who is Joy (조이)?

Joy (조이) is the stage name of K-Pop star Park Soo Young. She is an award-winning South Korean singer, dancer and actress. Joy is best known as a member of the popular K-Pop girl group Red Velvet. She is also a former member of the SM Entertainment project girl group SM Rookies.

Early Life and Career

Park Soo Young was born on September 3rd, 1996 in Daegu, South Korea. She attended Korea Kent Foreign School in Seoul. In 2014, at age 17, she joined SM Entertainment as part of their pre-debut training program SM Rookies. Later that year, she made her first television appearance as a host of MBC Music's Show Champion. In 2015, she became an official member of the five-member K-pop girl group Red Velvet, who debuted with the single 'Happiness'. Since then, she has gone on to release other singles with the group such as 'Ice Cream Cake', 'Russian Roulette' and 'Peek-a-Boo'. In 2019, Joy made her solo debut with the single 'Begin Again'.

Acting Career

Joy made her acting debut in 2016 with a lead role in SBS's drama The Liar and His Lover. She has since gone on to appear in other dramas such as Tempted (2018), Tung Tung Tung (2020) and The School Nurse Files (2020). Her film credits include The Package (2017) and Hotel Del Luna (2019). She has also appeared as a cast member on variety shows such as We Got Married, We Got Divorced and How Do You Play?

Awards and Achievements

Joy has won several awards for her work in music and acting. In 2018, she was awarded Best Female Rookie at the SBS Entertainment Awards for her performance in The Liar and His Lover. She also won Favorite Idol Award at the 2020 Soribada Best K-Music Awards for her solo debut single 'Begin Again'. In addition to this, Red Velvet have won several prestigious awards over the years including Best Female Group at both the Mnet Asian Music Awards and Golden Disc Awards.

Personal Life

In August 2020, it was reported that Joy had been dating Sungjae from boy group BTOB since early 2019. It was also reported that they had been living together since August 2020. The couple have been seen together in public several times.
