Kreator: German Thrash Metal Masters

Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen, formed in 1982. The band's current lineup consists of Miland 'Mille' Petrozza (vocals and guitar), Jürgen 'Ventor' Reil (drums), Christian 'Speesy' Giesler (bass) and Sami Yli-Sirniö (guitar). Kreator has released sixteen studio albums, two EPs, four live albums and four compilation albums. Their latest album is 2020's 'London Apocalypticon – Live at the Roundhouse'.

Kreator is considered one of the most important bands in the history of thrash metal and one of the leaders of Teutonic thrash metal, along with Destruction and Sodom. Their style of music is similar to that of their compatriots, mixing the speed and aggression of hardcore punk with the guitars of heavy metal. The lyrics are often inspired by movies or literature, while they sometimes contain political or religious themes.

The band has had several line-up changes over the years; however, lead singer and guitarist Mille Petrozza has always remained at its core. Kreator has found success in Europe and the United States, with several of their albums reaching gold status in Germany for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. They have been called one of the “big four” of Teutonic thrash metal along with Destruction, Sodom and Tankard.

The band's first album was 1985's 'Endless Pain', an intense and aggressive album that showcased the band’s developing sound. This was followed by 1986's 'Pleasure to Kill', which was even more aggressive than its predecessor, and featured some of the most intense thrash metal ever recorded. 1987's 'Terrible Certainty' saw Kreator further refining their sound, while 1989’s 'Extreme Aggression' was acclaimed as one of the greatest thrash metal albums ever recorded.

Kreator continued to evolve throughout the 1990s, releasing several albums that combined elements of thrash metal, death metal and industrial metal. Since then, they have continued to record and tour around the world, playing to legions of devoted fans. Kreator are widely regarded as one of the best thrash metal bands ever and have cemented their legacy as one of the most influential bands in heavy music.
