The Early Life of Kwesta

Kwesta was born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes in Katlehong, South Africa in 1988. His love for music started at a young age and he began writing rhymes as early as 12 years old. He went on to study Sound Engineering and pursue music full-time. After releasing his first mixtape in 2009, Kwesta quickly found success in the South African hip-hop scene.

Rise to Fame

In 2011, Kwesta released his debut album Special Rekwest. He followed this up with his second album DaKAR II in 2014. Kwesta further cemented his place as one of South Africa’s top hip-hop artists with the release of his third album DaKAR III, which was certified 8x platinum in the country. He has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry such as AKA, Rick Ross, Emtee, Riky Rick, and Cassper Nyovest.

Awards and Accolades

Kwesta has been recognized with multiple awards throughout his career. In 2015, he received the Best Newcomer award at the Metro FM Music Awards. In 2017, he was awarded both the Best Male Artist and Song of the Year awards at the South African Music Awards. He also received the Best Hip Hop Album award at the same ceremony for his album DaKAR III.

Kwesta continues to be one of South Africa’s most successful hip-hop artists. He is known for his unique sound which combines elements of hip-hop, trap, house and jazz. Kwesta’s music has resonated with fans from around the world and he has become an icon for South African youth.
