Who is Laura Marano?

Laura Marano is an American actress, singer, and songwriter. She is best known for her appearances on the Disney Channel show Austin & Ally and the movie Lady Bird. Born in 1995, she began her acting career at the age of 5, appearing in various commercials and television shows. In 2006, she made her film debut in the movie Superbad.

Early Life

Marano was born in Los Angeles to Damiano Marano and Ellen Marano, who were both involved in showbusiness. She is the older sister of actor Vanessa Marano. She attended regular school until 8th grade before being homeschooled to accommodate her acting career.

Career

Marano's first major role was in the short-lived series Without a Trace, playing a young girl whose father disappears. She then went on to appear in a number of other shows, including Ghost Whisperer, Medical Investigation, Back to You, and Frasier. In 2011, Marano was cast as Ally Dawson in the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally. The show revolved around aspiring singer-songwriter Austin Moon (Ross Lynch) and his best friend Ally Dawson (Marano). The show ran for four seasons from 2011 to 2016. In 2017, she starred opposite Saoirse Ronan in the critically acclaimed movie Lady Bird. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film follows a teenage girl's turbulent relationship with her mother as they navigate their way through high school and college.

Music Career

Marano also has a successful music career. She has released two EPs: Me (2015) and This Is Me Letting You Go (2017). Her single “Boombox” peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. She has also appeared as a guest vocalist on other artist's songs such as “Let Me Cry” by R5 and “I Don't Wanna Let Go” by Ross Lynch.

Personal Life

Marano currently lives in Los Angeles with her family. She is an advocate for mental health awareness, speaking out about her own struggles with anxiety and depression. Outside of acting and music, she enjoys reading, playing the piano, traveling and cooking.
