Bio

Leo Sayer is an English singer-songwriter best known for his hits 'When I Need You', 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing' and 'More Than I Can Say'. He has been releasing music since the 1970s and is one of the most successful British artists of all time.
Sayer was born Gerard Hugh Sayer in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, England in 1948. He began learning to play the piano at age five and by his late teens was a professional musician. In 1972 he signed a deal with Chrysalis Records and released his debut single 'Why Is Everybody Going Home?'. The song was not a hit but it did attract the attention of DJ David Jensen who featured it on his show.
The next single, 'The Show Must Go On', was released in 1973 and became a hit in the UK. This was quickly followed by another hit, 'Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance)'. In 1976 he released his breakthrough single, 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing', which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned him two Grammy Awards.
Sayer continued to have success throughout the decade with a string of hit singles including 'When I Need You', 'Thunder In My Heart' and 'More Than I Can Say'. He also collaborated with Cliff Richard on the duet single 'Dreaming'. He released his last album of original material in 2009 before entering semi-retirement.
Throughout his career Sayer has sold over 25 million records worldwide and continues to tour across Europe. He has also appeared on television shows such as Top of the Pops, The Kenny Everett Video Show and The Muppet Show.
