Jelisaveta 'Lepa' Brena is a Serbian singer, actress, and television personality. She is considered one of the most popular singers in the Balkan region, with her career spanning over five decades. Born in Novi Pazar, Serbia on October 20, 1960, she gained fame in the 1980s as a folk singer with hits like “Šta će mi život” and “Čašu ljubavi”.

Early Life and Career

Brena's career began in 1979 when she joined Ambasadori, one of Yugoslavia's most popular bands at the time. Her first single was released that same year and was an immediate hit. During the 1980s she released several albums with Ambasadori that are considered classics today.

Breakthrough Success

In 1985 Brena released her first solo album titled “Lepotica”. The album was an immediate success and spawned hits like “Šta će mi život” and “Čašu ljubavi”. The success of these songs made her a household name in Yugoslavia at the time.

Successful Acting Career

In addition to her music career, she also had a successful acting career. Her first role was in the 1988 Yugoslavian drama film “The Lace” where she played the lead role of Milica. She later went on to star in many successful films such as “Hajde da se volimo” (1991) and “Najbolje godine” (1998).

Recent Career

In recent years Brena has continued to remain active in both music and acting. In 2008 she released her 13th studio album titled “Kokolo” which was an immediate success. In 2015 she starred in the Serbian comedy film “Sve će biti dobro” which also proved to be a success. She also continues to tour regularly performing both old and new songs for her devoted fans.
