Who Is Malú?

Malú is the stage name of María Lucía Sánchez-Vallejo López, a Spanish singer, songwriter and actress born on October 2nd, 1979 in Madrid. She started her career in 2001 with the release of her first album, “Malú”, which was a huge success and earned her multiple Latin Grammy nominations. Her second album “Aprendiz” (2005) was also highly successful and earned her another Latin Grammy nomination in 2006.

Music Career

After releasing her third album “Desafío” in 2007, Malú decided to take a break from the music industry to focus on her acting career. She made a comeback in 2011 with the album “Ay Amor” and has since released four more albums - “A prueba de ti” (2013), “Sí” (2015), “Caos” (2017) and “Oxígeno” (2020). Malú is known for blending pop with soft rock, jazz, flamenco and other genres. She has collaborated with several other artists such as Ricky Martin, Alejandro Sanz, Cali & El Dandee and Pablo Alborán.

Acting Career

Apart from her singing career, Malú has also taken up acting. She starred in the film “Cómo sobrevivir a una despedida” (2006) as well as several Spanish television series. She also appeared in the film “Las oportunidades de mi vida” (2007).

Awards & Achievements

Malú has been nominated for two Latin Grammys in 2004 and 2006 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Album respectively. She has won several awards throughout her career including two Ondas Awards for Best National Tour of the Year in 2005 and 2008. In 2018 she was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
