Matt Corby Biography

Matthew John Corby, better known as Matt Corby, is an Australian singer-songwriter, who rose to fame with his soulful folk and indie rock music. Born in Sydney in 1990, he began playing guitar at the age of 11 and released his debut EP, ‘Song For...’ in 2008. Following the success of his debut, he released two more EPs, ‘Transition to Colour’ and ‘Into the Flame’. In 2011, Corby released his first studio album ‘Into the Flame’ which spawned the hit single ‘Brother’. The song became an instant hit, peaking at number one on Triple J's Hottest 100 Chart.

Early Life

Matt Corby was born in Sydney, Australia in 1990. Music has always been a part of his life since childhood. At the age of 11, he began playing guitar and by 16 he was writing his own songs. He had a keen interest in blues and soul music, which inspired him to create his own style of music.

Career

In 2008, Matt Corby released his first EP ‘Song For...’ which instantly gained critical acclaim. The EP included the track ‘Made of Stone’ which was voted into Triple J's Hottest 100 that year. Following this success, he released two more EPs ‘Transition to Colour’ (2009) and ‘Into the Flame’ (2010). In 2011, he released his debut studio album ‘Into the Flame’ which included his hit single ‘Brother’. The song topped Triple J's Hottest 100 Chart that year and was certified platinum by ARIA.

Recent Work

In 2015, Matt Corby released his second studio album ‘Rainbow Valley’. The album featured the hit single ‘Monday’ which reached number one on Triple J's Hottest 100 Chart in 2016. In 2018, he released his third studio album ‘Rainbow Valley Revisited’ which featured reworked versions of some of the songs from his previous albums as well as new tracks. He also teamed up with American rapper Wale on the single ‘My Only Friend’ in 2018.

Awards & Achievements

In 2012, Matt Corby won Best Male Artist at the ARIA Music Awards for his album ‘Into the Flame’. He has also won several other awards including three APRA Music Awards for Most Performed Australian Work (2012 & 2013) and Song of the Year (2013).

Personal Life

Matt Corby is currently single. He lives in Sydney with his family and continues to write and perform music.
