Mavado, born David Constantine Brooks in 1981, is a Jamaican dancehall artist who has been dominating the music industry since 2003. His music is heavily influenced by hip hop and reggae and he is known for his aggressive vocal delivery. He is also one of the most successful dancehall artists of his time, having won multiple awards and collaborating with some of the biggest names in music.
Early Career
Mavado began his career as part of the group called “The Alliance” along side fellow artists like Vybz Kartel and Elephant Man. He gained recognition for his debut single “Real McKoy” which was well received by audiences. His first album “Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks” was released in 2006 and featured collaborations with artists like Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne and Akon. The album peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Later Career
In 2010, Mavado released his second album “Mr. Brooks… A Better Tomorrow” which featured popular singles such as “Delilah” and “I Know You Want Me”. He followed this up with the EP “Ghett Out” in 2011 which featured the single “Settle Down” which was a hit in Jamaica. In 2013, he released the album “Mr. Brooks… A Better Tomorrow Part 2” which featured the single “Live My Life” featuring Akon. Since then he has released several singles such as “Legacy”, “My League” and “Big League”.

Mavado has won numerous awards over the course of his career including winning the MOBO award for Best Reggae Act in 2008 and the International Reggae and World Music Awards for Entertainer of the Year in 2014. He has also been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards.
