Introduction

MC Tocha is a Portuguese singer, songwriter and rapper from Lisbon. Her music combines afro-house and hip hop beats with Portuguese lyrics. She has worked with many prominent artists in her home country, as well as international acts such as Deezy and Ghetto Zouk. Her debut album 'A Vida é um Só' was released in 2018 and has been praised by critics for its fusion of genres and powerful lyrics.

Early Life

MC Tocha was born Ana Margarida da Costa Valente in Lisbon in 1988. She grew up in a family of musicians and was encouraged to pursue music from an early age. At the age of 12, she started writing her own songs, inspired by her love of hip hop and rap. By the time she was 16, she had begun to perform at local clubs in Lisbon.

Career

In 2009, MC Tocha released her first single ‘Vem Meu Amor’ on the independent label SLAP Records. The single caught the attention of local radio stations and she soon began to collaborate with some of the biggest names in Afro-house at the time, such as Deezy and Ghetto Zouk. In 2011, she released her first EP ‘Novo Olhar’ which was well received by critics. She followed it up with a second EP ‘Luz’ in 2013, which featured collaborations with Kady and other Portuguese artists. In 2018, she released her debut album ‘A Vida é um Só’ which featured tracks such as ‘Solte o Cabo’, ‘Tudo Vai Mudar’, and ‘Cabra da Peste’. The album was praised for its unique fusion of genres and powerful lyrics.

Personal Life

MC Tocha currently lives in Lisbon where she continues to write and record music. She also works as a vocal coach for upcoming singers and rappers. In her spare time she enjoys reading and playing tennis.
