Who is MEDDY?

Meddy Saleh, better known as MEDDY, is a Rwandan singer-songwriter from Kigali. He is best known for his soulful afro-pop and R&B music. He has been active in the music scene since 2012 and has collaborated with several other artists including Rich Mavoko, Gaz Mawete and Mr. Leo.

Early Life and Career

MEDDY was born in 1988 in Kigali, Rwanda. He was exposed to music at a young age, with his parents playing music around the house. He started singing at the age of 12, and started writing and producing his own songs at the age of 16. After high school, he started performing around Kigali, and soon gained recognition within the music scene. In 2012, he released his debut album 'The Beginning' which received critical acclaim.

Rise to Fame

MEDDY's career took off after he released his second album 'More Life' in 2015. The album featured collaborations with some of Africa's most popular artists including Rich Mavoko, Gaz Mawete and Mr. Leo. The album was a huge success and MEDDY soon became one of the most famous African singers in the world. He went on to tour across Africa and Europe and was even invited to perform at the 2016 BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Awards and Accomplishments

MEDDY has achieved great success in his career so far. He has been nominated for several awards including two MTV Africa Music Awards and three Rwandan Hip-hop Awards. He also won a BET Award for Best International Act in 2017. He has also performed at numerous festivals including Afropunk Festival in South Africa and Afro Nation Festival in Portugal.

Philanthropy

In addition to his musical career, MEDDY is also an active philanthropist. In 2020, he launched the 'One Love' campaign which aims to raise awareness about mental health issues in Rwanda. The campaign has been supported by several celebrities including Alicia Keys, Ciara and Pharrell Williams.

Personal Life

MEDDY is currently living in Kigali with his wife and two children. He is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and continues to use his platform to speak out about important issues facing Rwanda.
