About MercyMe

MercyMe is an American contemporary Christian music band founded in Greenville, Texas. The band consists of lead vocalist Bart Millard, percussionist Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael John Scheuchzer and Barry Graul. The band has released eight studio albums including their most successful album Almost There, which contained the hit single ""I Can Only Imagine"" and propelled the band to stardom.

Biography

MercyMe was formed in 1994 by Bart Millard and guitarist Mike Scheuchzer. The two had been playing together since high school and were involved in several different bands before joining forces. In 1996 they added a rhythm section with bassist Nathan Cochran and drummer Robby Shaffer. They released their self-titled debut album in 2001 featuring the hit single ""I Can Only Imagine"". This song quickly became a fan favorite and propelled the band to national fame. The band has since released seven more studio albums, garnering numerous awards and accolades along the way. In 2004 they were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album for their album Undone.

The current line-up of MercyMe consists of lead vocalist Bart Millard, percussionist Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael John Scheuchzer and Barry Graul. All five members contribute to songwriting as well as producing albums.

Collaborations

MercyMe has collaborated with numerous other artists over the years. They have worked with Amy Grant on her hit single ""Better Than a Hallelujah"", Natalie Grant on her single ""Alive"", and The Afters on their popular single ""Mountain of God"". The band has also collaborated with numerous other artists in the Christian music scene such as Third Day, TobyMac and Newsboys.

Throughout their career MercyMe has been nominated for numerous awards including several Dove Awards, three Grammy Awards, four Billboard Music Awards and two American Music Awards. They have also won multiple awards including three GMA Dove Awards, one Grammy Award and one Billboard Music Award.
