Metronomy is an English electronic music group formed by Joseph Mount in 1999. The group is composed of Joseph Mount (vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass), Oscar Cash (keyboards, saxophone, backing vocals), Anna Prior (drums) and Gbenga Adelekan (bass). Their music blends electronic, pop and synth-pop music with a unique sound that has seen them gain critical acclaim and recognition worldwide.
Metronomy's History
Metronomy was founded in 1999 by Joseph Mount in Totnes, Devon. After graduating from college, he began experimenting with making music using his computer and software. His early releases were released under the name 'Metronomy' and gained him recognition amongst fans of electronica and indie music. The band released their debut album 'Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)' in 2006 followed by 'Nights Out' in 2008. Their third album 'The English Riviera' was released in 2011 and was a critical success, earning them an Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song for the single 'The Look'.
Music Style
Metronomy's sound is often described as an eclectic mix of electronica and indie pop. They incorporate elements of funk, soul and rock into their music to create a unique sound that is both danceable and melodic. Their music has been compared to the likes of Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem and Animal Collective. They have also collaborated with other artists such as Robyn, Dizzee Rascal and The Chemical Brothers.
Live Performances
