Who Are Mint Condition?
Mint Condition is an American R&B band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 1989, the band is composed of lead singer Stokley Williams, keyboardist/guitarist Homer O'Dell, bassist Larry Waddell, drummer Ricky Kinchen, and guitarist Jeff Allen. The group has released eight albums and achieved multi-platinum success with hit singles such as ""What Kind of Man Would I Be"", ""U Send Me Swingin'"", ""Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)"", and ""Nobody Does It Better"".
Early Years and Debut Album
The members of Mint Condition had all previously been in various local funk bands in the Minneapolis area before they formed Mint Condition in 1989. In 1992, they released their debut album Meant to Be Mint on Perspective Records. The album spawned a minor hit single ""Are You Free"", which peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Achieving Success with From the Mint Factory
Mint Condition's second album From the Mint Factory was released in 1995 on Perspective Records. The album peaked at number 18 on the US charts and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The lead single from the album, ""What Kind of Man Would I Be"", was a major hit on both urban and pop radio. It peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group went on tour to support the album and earned a strong fan base throughout North America.
Later Career and Grammy Nominations
Mint Condition released five additional albums between 1997 and 2016. Their fifth album Livin' The Luxury Brown was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. In 2013, they released their sixth studio album Music @ The Speed of Life which was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. They are currently working on new material for their upcoming ninth studio album.
