Who is Mishary Rashid Alafasy? Mishary Rashid Alafasy is a Kuwaiti Qur’anic reciter and nasheed artist. He is one of the most renowned Islamic scholars in the world. His full name is Mishary bin Rashid bin Gharib bin Muhammad Al-Afasy or Abu Rashed. He also has popularly been referred to as Imam Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy or Sheikh Mishary Al-Afasy. Early Life Alafasy was born in Kuwait on September 5th, 1976. His parents are from Hadramawt which is located in Yemen. He comes from a large family of twelve siblings. He studied at the College of the Quran and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia. Career In 2000, he returned to Kuwait where he began teaching in the Faculty of Quran and Sunnah at the Islamic Institute of Kuwait. During this period, he achieved international recognition as a Qur’anic reciter and eventually was recognized as one of the most famous reciters of the Quran. He has released several albums such as “Asma al Husna”, “Al Mukminoon”, “Ghamed al Madina” and many more. He has also released a variety of nasheeds such as “Ya Nabi Salam Alayka” and others. In addition to this, he has been featured in a variety of TV shows and radio programs such as “Tafseer Ramadan” and “The Light” on Iqraa TV channel. Achievements Alafasy has been presented with numerous awards throughout his career such as the King Fahd Quran Printing Complex Award for best recitation in 2005 and 2010. He is also featured on the list of Top 500 Most Influential Muslims in 2013 and 2014. His work has been appreciated by millions of people all over the world who regard him as an inspiration and role model. Personal Life Alafasy is married and has four children. He resides with his family in Kuwait where he continues to teach in various institutions.
