Early Life

Steven Patrick Morrissey was born on May 22, 1959, in Davyhulme, Lancashire, England. He was raised in a working-class Irish Catholic family. From a young age, Morrissey was an avid reader and music fan. His love of literature and music led him to pursue a career in music. He attended St. Mary's Secondary Modern School and later Manchester Polytechnic.

Career Beginnings

In 1982, Morrissey formed The Smiths with guitarist Johnny Marr. The band quickly gained popularity with singles like “This Charming Man” and “How Soon Is Now?” Throughout their four-year existence, The Smiths released four studio albums and garnered critical acclaim for their unique sound. After the group disbanded in 1987, Morrissey embarked on a solo career.
