Mýa was born on October 10th, 1979 in Washington, D.C., USA. She began performing at a young age, and she was just thirteen when she started taking professional vocal lessons. At sixteen, she signed with Interscope Records and released her self-titled debut album. The album was a success and featured the hit single ""It's All About Me"" which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2000, Mýa released her second album Fear of Flying which featured the hit single ""Case Of The Ex."" This song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
