Who is Obie Bermudez?

Obie Bermudez is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter who shot to fame after releasing his debut album Antes in 2001. Born Eduardo José Bermúdez Rodríguez on October 11th, 1976, he has since released five studio albums and earned a Latin Grammy nomination. His music combines elements of Latin pop, hip hop, reggae and R&B.

Early Life

Obie was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began performing at a young age, playing the trumpet and singing in church choirs. He cites Michael Jackson as one of his earliest influences.

Career Beginnings

In 2001, Obie released his debut album Antes. The lead single “Antes” was an immediate hit and reached the top of the Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart. The album itself was certified gold in the U.S., with hits like “Aquí”, “Tu No Tienes Corazon” and “Te Regalo Amores” also gaining traction on Spanish radio stations.

Collaborations

Obie has collaborated with a number of famous artists during his career. He featured on Gloria Estefan’s 2003 single “No Llores” and India’s 2004 track “Tú Me Vuelves Loco”. He earned a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Song for “Tu Olor”, which he recorded with Marc Anthony in 2006. In 2007 he worked with Kelly Rowland on her hit single “Like This”.

Recent Years

In 2011 Obie released his fifth studio album Cuando Los Angeles Lloran. The lead single “Amor Bueno” was a hit on Latin radio stations in the U.S., while the album itself was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album in 2012. In April 2019 Obie released the single “No Te Vayas de Mi Lado” to coincide with his tour of the same name.
