Our Lady Peace Biography

Our Lady Peace is a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1992. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Raine Maida, guitarist Mike Turner, bassist Duncan Coutts and drummer Steve Mazur. Our Lady Peace has released nine studio albums and gained popularity with their hit singles “Clumsy” and “4 AM”.

Formation and Early Career

Raine Maida and Mike Turner met at a high school party in Toronto and began writing music together. After recruiting bassist Duncan Coutts and drummer Jeremy Taggart, the band officially formed in 1992 under the name Our Lady Peace. In 1993 they independently released their first album Naveed on their own label Coalition Music. The album was later re-released by Sony Music Canada after gaining attention from the single “Starseed”.

Commercial Success

Our Lady Peace's commercial breakthrough came in 1997 with the release of their sophomore album Clumsy. The album featured the hit singles “Superman’s Dead” and “Clumsy” which both charted in the top 10 of the Canadian Hot 100. The album went on to be certified triple platinum in Canada and earned them their first Juno Award for Best Rock Album.

Collaborations

Our Lady Peace has collaborated with several other Canadian artists including K-OS, Buck 65 and The Tragically Hip. In 2006 they released a compilation album entitled Healthy in Paranoid Times which featured collaborations with some of their favourite Canadian artists.

Legacy

Our Lady Peace has sold over 5 million records worldwide and have won numerous awards including 8 Juno Awards, 4 MuchMusic Video Awards and 5 SOCAN Awards. They are considered one of the most successful Canadian rock bands of all time and continue to tour around the world.}
